Which Screen is King to Your Audience?

How much time do people spend looking at their mobile phones and how does this compare to other media? These statistics reveal that the screen people are the most preoccupied with is the one that fits into the palm of their hand:

  • 55% of all email messages are viewed on mobile devices (Michael E).
  • American smartphone owners spent around 34 hours on their mobile phones during the month of December. PCs usage, on the other hand, only reached 26 hours (Fox VanAllen).
  • 50% of mobile phone users, use mobile as their primary means of going online (Super Monitoring).
  • We spend about 1.8 hours a day on our mobile phones. Compare that to 1.5 hours watching TV and 1.6 hours on our PCs (Super Monitoring).

Based on these statistics marketers are recognizing the need to optimize communication for mobile devices. Make your messages go further with a text messaging service like SendTree. With SendTree you can share important news with your audience anytime by sending text messages directly to their mobile phones.

Which Device Is a Habit (Not A Hassle) to Check?

What device has become an essential, everyday part of our lives? Short answer: it’s our mobile phones! This survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Lookout found that it’s becoming increasingly common for smartphones owners to constantly check their phones. As these stats indicate, people are addicted to checking their phones, regardless of the time or place:

  • Almost 60% of participants said they don’t go an hour without checking their phone. Younger audiences (between the ages of 18-34) were the most addicted: 63% of women and 73% of men claimed they don’t go an hour without looking at their phone.
  • 54% reported checking their phones while lying in bed: before they go to sleep, after they wake up, even in the middle of the night.
  • Approximately 40% of the participants admitted to checking their phone while on the toilet.

People love being able to instantly connect which is why text messaging is one of the most convenient channels to reach your audience. Whatever your organization's goals are mobile messaging is a great way to stay connected with your contacts.

Business Forecasters Predict Mobile Is The Future of Marketing

We love Tom Lowery’s article Why Mobile Is the Future of Advertising and Marketing because it sums up our marketing philosophythe future is mobile.

Did you know? Business strategists calculate that within the year there will be more smartphones in the world than PCs. See Benedict Evans’ comment here>>

As the number of smartphones in the world increases it is clear that communication through mobile phones will be one of the most immediate ways to engage your audience. As Lowery explains in his HuffPost article, “If you're a company that uses advertising in any meaningful way, you'd better buy your mobile cruise tickets before the boat leaves without you.”

Get Ahead with Mobile Marketing

People want to stay connected with one another and one of the most immediate ways to do that is through text. Appeal to your audience by reaching out to them on the device expected to outrank PCs by the end of this year: mobile phones. Mobile marketing is the obvious choice to keep your audience informed of important news, notifications, and sales.

Text vs. Email: Are You Choosing the Right Channel?

Are you relying exclusively on e-mail to send messages to your customers and contacts? Some research by Mousetrap Mobile and Joanna Stern suggests that text messaging may be a better way to reach your audience than email.

  • 99% of text messages are opened (Mousetrap Mobile).

  • Coupons sent through SMS are redeemed 15- 20% of the time, and in some cases averages reach 30% (Mousetrap Mobile).
  • 14 minutes: The time it takes for a recipient to open a text message once its been sent (Mousetrap Mobile).
  • Text messages are a more intimate and concise form of communication.

Email
  • Less than 20% of emails are opened (Mousetrap Mobile).
  • People spend 20 minutes a day checking their personal email (Mousetrap Mobile).
  • Coupons sent through email are redeemed less than 1% (Mousetrap Mobile).
  • 6.4 hours: The average time it takes for a recipient to view an email once its been sent (Mousetrap Mobile).

Mobile Health: How Automated Text Messages Are Helping Patients with Diabetes

MedPage Today: Study Finds a Correlation Between Texting & Diabetes Treatment

A study featured on MedPage Today reported some astounding news about the impact of automated text messages on patients with diabetes. In this article a group of patients were sent periodic text messages throughout the day to remind them to take their medication, refill prescriptions, and various other preventative steps. A direct quote from MedPage Today’s article reads:

Patients with diabetes who received a text message reminder about checking their blood sugar or refilling their medicines saw improvements in clinical outcomes and lower healthcare costs, researchers said.

Texting: A Future in Medicine?

This text messaging program which was aimed at helping patients control their diabetes reported a drop in patients’ glucose levels. The number of outpatient visits also declined as did health care costs. Mobile health is an innovative technology that enables healthcare organizations to effectively support patients outside of the doctor’s office. This study suggests a future in which text messages are used to provide self-management care to patients.
